AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Founded as Volunteers in Service to America in 1965 and incorporated into the AmeriCorps network of programs in 1993, VISTA has been on the front lines in the fight against poverty in America for more than 40 years.
Vista members commit to serve full-time for a year at a non-profit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you'll create or expand programs designated to brings individuals and communities out of poverty.

National Safe Place would like to celebrate the success of our 7 VISTA members. A big round of applause goes to Chrissy Marzano and Jill Luckett at the National Safe Place office, Lisa-Sun Gresham at YMCA Safe Place Services in Louisville, KY, Marian Kelly at Homeward Bound/Brighton Center in Covington, KY, Aimee White at LINK House in Kingsport, TN, Jessica Guyet at Seton Youth Shelters in Virginia Beach, VA and Sondra Jackson at Youth Services System, Inc. in Wheeling, WV. Collectively they have been responsible for the addition of 62 new sites, including two transit systems; awards totaling $139,528 from grants or foundation and in-kind contributions valued at $17,911; increased awareness among youth and adults and increased national awareness resulting in a 215% increase of fans following the National Safe Place Facebook fan page and Twitter account; and most importantly, an increase in youth using the program within their service areas all within their first 8 months of services. Our AmeriCorps VISTA members have truly helped build the capacity of the agencies at which they are serving and we appreciate and are grateful that they have chosen to serve with Safe Place.
