FEDERAL GRANT ALLOWS NATIONAL SAFE PLACE
TO EXPAND OUTREACH THROUGH
SCHOOL-BASED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

Training Opportunity

The U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance has awarded a grant to National Safe Place in Louisville, KY to educate School based law enforcement officers to recognize at-risk youth and provide information about Safe Place Services and other resources that are available to them for the referral of young people.  The grant specifically targets 5 pilot states: Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina and Texas.   There is no cost for officers to participate in this training so act now to get involved with this pilot project through the BJA.

Available Materials and Resources

School Resource and other law enforcement officers, juvenile justice practitioners and family court staff in Safe Place communities within the five pilot states will receive free materials to distribute in schools and throughout their communities.  These materials are being developed and produced for distribution at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year.  This includes:

  • Safe Place posters
  • Brochures for students and adults
  • English and Spanish Safe Place video
  • Outreach cards
  • Safe Place "Safety Bears

Important note to School Resource Officers:

If you have utilized Safe Place information in classroom/school presentations we need to hear from you.  We must have data regarding your presentations in order to accurately report grant activity.
